A Note from Bryan Blood
Continuing our Cybersecurity Education
If you’ve read my past newsletter introductions, you may have noticed that cybersecurity is my favorite topic. Like being a sales professional, it’s fast moving and always changing.
Cybersecurity technology also keeps the engineer in me curious and learning more. As I’ve said in the past, cybersecurity requires continuing education for all of us, up through our executive leadership and board members so that we can be conversant about the issues and protect patients, ourselves, and our businesses.
However, we all play a role in protecting our environment. Educating your entire hospital staff is one of the most important things you can do. Teach them to be vigilant and act as human firewalls.
Two examples where education is important.
I received a text from a family member concerned that she had been hacked due to two random phishing emails from McAfee (Although most of us know what McAfee is, she did not). This was an attempt to get her to engage so they could get other information (specifically banking information) to steal from her. My response was, “Delete and ignore,” which is what she did.
I also received a text from mamahootie@icloud.com that read:
The USPS package has arrived at the warehouse and cannot be delivered due to incomplete address information. Please confirm your address in the link. https://xxxups.com. (Please reply to 1, then exit the SMS, open the SMS activation link again, or copy the link to Safari browser and open it) The USPS team wishes you a great day!
What are the three specific issues with this message?
- The from. I would not be talking with anyone with that email address/text handle.
- The link sent for me to click (so they could either plant a virus or steal my information) did not have USPS in the actual link.
- I have received legitimate text messages from USPS, so I know what they look like and what the text handle is.
Whether it be in a healthcare environment, our business, or our own personal environment, many people do not know what they do not know. We need continuing education at every level in our hospitals, businesses, and personal lives.
Our Cybersecurity Insider Program provides this continuing education at different levels, depending on the latest threat intelligence and on what we see in the field as we deliver our services to our Healthcare customers.
My favorite service is our Cybersecurity Capability Maturity Model (C2M2). This service provides a rapid understanding of your cybersecurity gaps and whether or not you are meeting HIPAA and NIST standards. The outcome is a dashboard that can be shared at your organization’s Executive and Board levels to track progress against 10 critical domains.
C2M2 allows us to meet our customers where they live and provide continual guidance to improve your cybersecurity posture as your budget allows. Conducting a C2M2 assessment also satisfies your annual requirement for a HIPAA risk assessment. Have you completed your required assessment yet in 2023?

Thank you in advance for your time, attention, and the opportunity for CloudWave to continue to serve you.
All the best,
Bryan

Advance Authorization Now Available
CloudWave is pleased to offer a new way to streamline how we deliver changes to your OpSus Cloud Services.

Meet Guy Billingsley
Project Manager
Many CloudWave employees have spent their careers in healthcare IT.
We don’t always see how our co-workers make a difference outside the workplace.
As Project Manager at CloudWave, Guy Billingsley ensures customer implementations and migrations stay on course, within budget, and are completed on time. But in his free time, he uses those same skills to foster and transport pets as part of a community volunteer program. With 16 years in the Air Force, Guy understands what leaving your pet behind when you’re deployed is like.
“Whether you need a safe place for your pet or there’s no room in the local shelter system, we provide a temporary safe place for them,” Guy explained.
Additionally, often pets are being shifted from local, overcrowded shelters to foster homes or forever homes nationwide. In that case, Guy explained, they are “part of a relay-race kind of transport system that moves the pets to their destinations.”
Guy has held several roles in healthcare IT over the last 24 years, including IT Director, Manager of Security & Availability, and Enterprise Solutions Architect. He was also a Senior Enterprise Systems Engineer at CHRISTUS Health, where many other CloudWave employees have worked.
Guy has been married for 40 years to a “wonderful woman” and has two children and four grandchildren.
“They are my primary focus and fill up much of my time.”
What does Guy like most about working in health care?
“Whether serving my nation in the military or providing the IT systems to support the healthcare industry, I believe in helping others and giving back to my community.”
